Privacy policy
What Detour stores about you, who else sees it, and how to have it deleted.
Who is responsible
Detour is made and run by Jan Tore Hageskal, Norway. Contact: jantore@hageskal.no.
What Detour stores
- Your account: the name, email address and sign-in method you use with Apple or Google, held by Clerk.
- Your trips: start, destination, dates, stops, driving limits, the stops you accept, skip or visit, and the overnights you mark as booked.
- Your interests: the topics you like or love, used to choose suggestions.
- Your position, only when you use Replan from here or Suggest stops from here. Each position you send this way is kept with the trip's history, so Detour can show and replan your trip, until you ask for it to be deleted. Detour never reads your position in the background.
Detour does not use analytics, advertising identifiers or tracking cookies.
Who else receives data, and why
- Clerk: sign-in.
- Mapbox: maps, place search and driving routes. It receives the places and coordinates of your trip, the text you type into place search, and your phone's IP address.
- Anthropic: chooses suggested stops. It receives your route, candidate places and interests, not your name or email address.
- Wikidata: facts about places along the route. It receives map areas, not anything about you.
- Stay22 and Booking.com: only when you open a hotel link. They receive the town, your dates and a code for the trip and night, and their own privacy policies apply from there. Detour earns a commission from bookings made through hotel links.
- Microsoft Azure: hosts Detour's server and backups in Norway (Norway East).
How long data is kept
Until you ask for your data to be deleted (see below). Detour does not yet have a delete button; during the beta, deletion is done by hand on request. Backups are kept for 14 days, then held for 7 more days in case one was deleted by mistake, and then deleted for good.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, for corrections, or for your account and trips to be deleted by emailing jantore@hageskal.no. Requests are handled within 30 days. You can also complain to Datatilsynet, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
